Hi everybody, This is Dave Karpinski, executive Director of the Parkhurst Field Foundation. I’m going live, to give an update to the community, everybody that’s been curious and driving by our facility and seeing the development that’s going on.
I know the front page of the Leader Herald today said Parkhurst Progress, and you could see some of the excavation that’s going on. I just wanted to bring you down here, and give a quick tour of what’s happening.
I’m going to kick over to rotate. What you see here already marked is the original home plate location of the original park in 1906. Out in the distance you see second base. And then ultimately, way out in the distance, you see a 200 foot marker. This entire area that’s been built up is the infield of the new premier field.
So it’s been built up about two feet above grade. As per the specs on the engineering drawings, this stake right here behind home plate, 25 feet behind home plate is the beginning of our grandstands. If you can imagine our grandstands are sitting here, I’ll rotate around. Your grandstands are here. Your home plate is out 25 feet. And then you can see right field going towards where the senior field used to be. The left field is going to end right about where the shed is, the original shed.
What’s really exciting about this is where the grandstands start. What you see now dug in the ground now are the footings for the future grandstand. So you have the two footings here, two in the distance, that’s the left field wing, and then you have a second set that supports the back of the grandstand. This will be concreted next week. Pillars put in, steel put in after that.
As you look through here, you can see there’s the future wing, the right field wing, the center, all the way through home plate, and the left field wing of the new grandstand. The really cool thing is if I continued to back up, eventually you’ll be able to walk into the grandstand here from the back side. And when you walk in down the right hand side will be our future museum. Further down will be storage from the outside. And when you face left, that will be our gift shop and then storage down the left field line. So this is the beginning of what will be the build out of the grandstands, which is going to happen all over the next next 30 days.
You will see the structure go up pretty fast, after a lot of site work and leveling and digging and so on. A lot of progress is being made. These are exciting times. We have some really cool updates about the original footings for the original grand stands that stood here. I’ll save that post for a later time. But definitely progress down here. Next 30 days will be be critical, and you’re going to see a lot of things happening. I’ll continue to give updates. Once again, Dave Karpinski, executive director of the Parkhurst Field Foundation. Thank you for all the support from the community and your patience while we got this off the ground. It’s a great time. Thank you.
