Good afternoon everybody. This is Dave Karpinski with Parkers Field Foundation. I am here giving our weekly update on the progress at the park. This afternoon I’m joined by Mike Hauser. We are scoping out the place. Just wanted to give a real quick tour of the updates for the week.
This is the walkway, if you will, behind the grandstand in the distance you see the parking lot that everybody’s familiar with. You have this walkway behind the grandstands. This week we finished the foundations, the footings and the uprights.
You see the anchor bolts there that are going to support the steel for the roof. So there’s the left wing of the grandstand. This side is the right hand wing. You see all the supports all the way into the distance.
That is the side that the museum is going to be on. We’re underneath the grandstands right now. And as we pass this stake imagine we’re standing. The front of the grandstand is going to have a walkway about six feet tall. So at the height of my head is going to be where people are walking just, just above us.
We just walked under the grandstands. And the cool thing is a lot of progress on the field. This is the actual location of home plate. It is marked. And if you can see all the way down, I know that we got some sun, but if you follow that all the way down, way into the distance, you see the mark for the right field pole. You see all the outfield. And then this is probably easier to see all the way down to the left field foul pole, way in the distance that little peg.
So here is your baseball field. We’ll take a walk past home plate to the pitcher’s mound.
If I had a baseball, I’d throw it to Hauser. Right now, the first official pitch, 46 feet.
Then you see second base and beyond there. But we’re going to walk past, you see the flags posted, the base marked, and then you see once we get out here the, the end of your infield is marked with the orange paint. So your infield is right about where that shadow is. That’s the end of your infield right there, and then back out all the way back
We’re standing at the end of the infield behind second base. Looking back with a wonderful backdrop of the Hauser tree, affectionately known as the Hauser tree. We won’t cut it down. This tree is watched every baseball game that ever took place here.
It’s hard to get a full perspective, but you’re standing behind second base. There’s your right wing, if you will, as you’re looking back to the grandstands way over there, and it wraps all the way around to the left wing. So your grandstands basically just end inside the first and third base lines. I’ll give you one more shot over here.
Your third base peg is right there in the foreground and in the background is the end of your grandstand. Tings are all marked out. We’ll be back filling around the grand stands, around all those supports. Next week upright steel comes the week of the 24th. The roof will start going on the first week in November. The actual grand stands themselves. The seating for the grandstands will probably be the back half of November. So we’re going to be building this thing for the next 60 days.
The really cool thing is the infield is all marked out because the sod will be delivered and in the infield in by the end of October. So grass will be here, where we’re standing, infield will be in, and then the structure will be built after that. I hope you like this little tour, more next week.
