Croation Softballers Capture Playoff Title in YM Loop, Beating St. Thomases 3-2

More than 20 potential members of the Gloversville-Johnstown Canadian-American league team were in town today ready to go though their first official paces in training for the coming season which opens May 1.

Final arrangements for the playoffs in the American Legion Midget league were made last night in the Legion home attended by the all team managers and coaches.

Gloversville Knights of Columbus will sponsor a baseball team in the Bi-County league in tne 1949 season, according to action taken at last night's meeting of the organization in the club rooms.

The Gloversville Merchants semi pro baseball club will hold a practice session Thursday evening on the Parkhurst field at 6:30.

The Thyne-Trask Cowboys, who have been waiting for a break in the weather for the past several days, will attempt to open their season this evening, meeting the Marts in a softball battle scheduled for Parkhurst Field.

The Elite baseball team will wind up its season this week-end with a two-game bill against the Johnstown Cubs. The first game will be played Saturday afternoon at 2:30 on Knox Field and final contest will go on at the Parkhurst Field, Sunday afternoon at 3:00.

he Scranton Giants put on an exhibition of timely hitting in the sixth frame of the game with the Rite-Ways on the Parkhurst diamond last evening and scored five runs in the rally and then coasted through to an easy victory over the locals by the final score of 7 to 4.

George Burns and his team mates will arrive in Gloversville this afternoon, shortly before 2 o'clock. They played an exhibition game in Cincinnati yesterday afternoon against the Yankees but will be on hand for today's game with the Elks.
